Another local business is backing the RideStaffs Staffordshire Cycling Festival that takes place in Stafford town centre on Sunday 22 July.
Stafford solicitors Pickering and Butters have been unveiled as the latest event sponsor.
The support of local businesses means that pro cycle racing will return to Stafford town centre for the first time since 2015 as the highlight of a packed day of cycling action. The best pro riders from across the UK will be competing in two Stafford Grand Prix races. Both take place on a new 750m circuit around the town centre that will see the riders completing a lap roughly once a minute throughout each race. It will be fast-and-furious cycling action. This year, there will also be something not seen in Stafford before to get the racing under way – an Oxford v Cambridge university cycle race.
Before the pro races there will be two RideStaffs sportives, with hundreds of cyclists taking part in 40 and 60-mile rides around the county before finishing in Market Square for big-screen action from the Tour de France, Strider bike races for the little ones, food from Wildfire Pizza Company, Bear Coffee, Lymestone Brewery and the latest cycling gear and goodies from Pro-Vision Clothing.
The day ends with the two pro races from 5pm.
Pickering and Butters join title sponsor Redrow Homes; VIP area sponsor Stafford Chamber of Commerce; digital sponsor Red Box Web Design; and other RideStaffs supporters Fuchs Silkolene, Mammoth, PedalSure, Lymestone Brewery, KOM Nutrition and Fortress Distribution.
James Wallbank, a partner at Pickering and Butters, said: “Staffordshire Cycling Festival is a hugely positive event for Stafford town centre, bringing thousands of people into the town, and we’re particularly excited about the pro cycle races. The RideStaffs Stafford sportive last year saw a 14% increase in town centre footfall compared to the same day in 2016, and the pro races will deliver an even bigger economic impact. I remember the crowds the last time they were held in the town centre. As a business in Stafford, we’re delighted to support this local event.”
